How to Tailgate

Polo Tailgating 101

Posh without pretense, at Denver Polo Club, polo is truly a lifestyle. Spend an afternoon taking in the world's most thrilling sport at one of our many events throughout the summer. Located just 30 minutes from Denver, here you’ll find plenty of up-close action, excitement, competition, and fun.

The best weekend things to do in Denver

Watch a game field side! Imagine thundering hooves racing twenty feet away from you at high speeds while you sip champagne or take a swig of beer. The chukker ends, the adrenaline settles, and you make your way to our field-side cocktail bar to fill your glass, then play a game of catch football or chase the little ones around the grass lawn. At halftime, you'll walk onto the field for a divot stomp, where you help the players by stomping upturned grass back into place. While every event is different, below are a few tips to help you prepare your polo tailgate.

  • What should I bring?

There will be an outdoor cocktail bar and food trucks for refreshments. Bring sunscreen and a hat to keep you cool.

The rest depends on your ticket type!

The UBS Sparkling VIP ticket is the easy button. It includes shaded seating, a personal charcuterie box and free-flowing prosecco. There's no need to bring anything!

General admission tickets include seating in a shaded tent with limited seating. We recommend bringing a lightweight camping chair or blanket to guarantee your comfort.

Tailgate spots include a parking space next to the field. You provide your own shade and seating.

Polo cabanas come with tailgate parking, cocktail tables and a 10' x 10' festival tent for shade. You bring snacks or contact us to order custom charcuterie for your guests.

Please no pets or outside alcohol.

  • What should I wear?

Sunday Funday tailgate parties are casual affairs. Shorts, flip-flops or sundresses and hats are all appropriate. We give awards for best dressed and best tailgate!

  • Will there be food and drinks?

Absolutely. The Wide Open Saloon outdoor cocktail bar will be serving up beverages and there will be food trucks onsite.

    Please, no outside alcohol.

  • Where should I park?

Our friendly gate attendants will direct you to your designated parking area. General admission guests will park in the Purple Wave lot above the fields and walk down, while VIP and tailgate ticketholders will park near the field.

Tailgaters,  leave at least 20 feet between your car and the side boards of the field. When the game is in play, the horses can jump over the boards, so you want to give them space and stay safe.

  • Where are the restrooms?

    There are port-a-potties onsite .

  • Can I bring pets?

For their safety, as well as the safety of our players and horses, we respectfully ask that you leave pets at home.

  • Can I cheer?

Absolutely! The louder the better. Pick a favorite team, player, or better yet a pony, and let them know you're their biggest fan. In fact, if you ask a player, they will likely allow to take a picture with them.

  • Can we pet the polo ponies?

Our members and players would be happy to show you around. Visit the Denver Polo Club tent torequest a tour of the facility. Like any athletes, polo ponies are focused on their game and can be sensitive to distractions or surprises. Approach the horses only when you are with a Denver Polo Club member, player, or staff.
